Woman Dubbed “The Hottest Firefighter” Ever By The Internet, Says Men Are Intimidated By Her
It’s safe to say that we’re well on our way to saying goodbye to stereotypical gender roles. More and more women have decided to focus on their careers, instead of starting families. We’ve also seen a rise in the amount of men who’ve opted to stay at home with the kids. And while they're home, their wives or girlfriends enter the work place. More women have also started entering male-dominated fields where just decades ago, they wouldn’t have been allowed to work in the first place. But here, one woman who’s been dubbed “world’s hottest firefighter” is a perfect example that girls can do anything boys can do.
Inspiration. A 30-year-old female firefighter from Norway named Gunn Narten has become an inspiration to girls everywhere. Why? Because of the fact that she’s not only a female in a male-dominated career, but also because she can also lift an entire fire truck by herself, and look good while doing it.
Career. Narten has been nicknamed the world’s “hottest firefighter” and has an Instagram with a following of almost 50,000 people to prove it. As if Narten’s career isn’t admirable enough as it is, she’s also a personal trainer and loves to stay in shape during her days off.
Taboo. While in some parts of the country more and more women are starting to work in fields where more men are typically employed than women, in Norway, it is still quite taboo for a woman to be a firefighter. However, Narten says it’s been her lifelong dream.
Active. "I decided to become a firefighter when I was 19 - I have always loved being active and being part of a team. When I found out you could combine this with a physical job, challenging tasks and doing something good for others, the choice was easy. I've never regretted it - I absolutely love my job,” says Narten, as reported by the Mirror UK.
Intimidating. Narten has gotten so strong from not just her job but from all the training she does, that she’s able to lift an entire firetruck by herself. Naturally, she says this is a little intimidating for both men and women, but particularly the men she dates.
Impressive. "Most men think it's cool and impressive, but others I think becomes a little scared. Maybe they think it's too 'manly' - but if they can't handle a girl with a chainsaw they need to toughen up,” says Narten, as reported by the Mirror UK.
Feminine. And although she loves her job and she loves to stay physically in shape, Narten says she still likes to dress up and be girly when she’s not being a total bad a**. She says most of her friends who she goes out with are already used to what she refers to as her “boyish humor” and the fact that she’s more “handy” than most women.
Strong. When she’s not with her friends or at work, Narten says that aside from hitting the gym where she does CrossFit, she loves to swim, run, and play football. She says she gets along great with her male co-workers, whom she’s proud to say she can keep up with when it comes to work and play.
Fitness. "It my profession, I need to be strong and have a high level of fitness. I want to make sure I can keep up with the boys. I have a really great relationship with my colleagues— we’re more like family. They treat me like any other firefighter,” Narten tells the Mirror UK.
Inspiration. Narten also has quite a large following on social media, where she posts inspiring fitness photos and tries to encourage other women to follow in her footsteps and not be afraid of following their dreams simply because of their gender. Because she didn’t receive much support when she was growing up, she hopes to be able to offer it to other girls who might be in a similar position.
Positivity. "I started my Instagram account to inspire people to follow their dreams and to show that people can do anything they want to. I want to be a person who inspires my followers to work out, by being positive and spreading smiles, health and happiness,” says Narten, as reported by the Mirror UK.
Success. Narten says that when she initially told her relatives what she wanted to do, they were surprised and asked her “why?” to which she replied “why not?” And now that she’s successful, she’s proven not just to her family but to the entire world that you can do whatever you want as long as you work hard.
Goals. "But I think one of the most important things in life is to figure out who you want to be and what you want to achieve in your life, and work towards those goals no matter what others might think or say."If you believe in yourself and work hard you will succeed. There will always be people who says you can't - prove them wrong,” Narten told the Mirror UK.
Future. Hopefully, young girls will see Narten as the inspiration that she is and as time goes on, we’ll see more women working as firefighters, police officers, or whatever else they may want to be.
You. Do you admire Narten for going after her dreams the way that she did? Let us know what you think!
